co2.click: Revolutionizing Air Quality Monitoring
The global debate on airborne transmission of COVID-19 and other pathogens underscores the need for effective ventilation in public spaces, especially schools. In Quebec, Canada, where co2.click was born, many school buildings have outdated or no mechanical ventilation systems, a situation common worldwide.
CO2 monitoring is a key indicator of ventilation quality, with levels above 1500ppm indicating poor ventilation and potential pathogen saturation. Previously, Quebec schools used a manual CO2 monitoring method, with sporadic readings recorded on paper, a process prone to errors and insufficient data collection.
The solution was a small Wi-Fi sensor, capable of being wall-mounted or placed on a desktop, that takes CO2, humidity, and temperature readings every 15 minutes. This data is sent to a centralized cloud server, accessible through a portal for real-time monitoring and alerts based on programmable thresholds. This automated system ensures continuous, accurate measurements and helps improve ventilation practices.
This innovation led to the birth of co2.click!
